WACK’S CARNIVOROUS PLANTS

Welcome to Wackโ€™s Wicked Plants, a specialist carnivorous plants nursery, open by appointment only, with a big selection of carnivorous plants online.

If you want to see us in person, we do flower shows, have open weekends, and are open by appointment. Billy the rescue lurcher will be on the nursery to meet and greet. Have a look at our scheduleย Shows and open weekends

About Us

We are a small, North-Yorkshire based, specialist nursery, and we grow, display and sell Carnivorous Plants at Shows and Fairs and at the nursery. We started as a backyard nursery in Knaresborough, and moved to the beautiful village of Scampston in 2015 to enable us to grow the nursery. When we started up, our shows were mainly in Yorkshire, but we have now gone further afield. We display our plants in several RHS Flower Shows as well as our local Harrogate Flower Shows and the Great Yorkshire Show. We are particularly proud of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal at our first attempt! By now we have 3 Chelsea Gold Medals and many more RHS golds. To achieve what we said we wanted right from the start (Best in Show at the Great Yorkshire Show) was brilliant.

Peter Walker (Wack) and his long suffering assistant (and wife) Helleentje, run the business, together with Billy the rescue lurcher. Peter started many years ago with a love of plants in general, but always with a special interest in unusual and/or exotic varieties. After stumbling across a nursery selling pitcher plants (while on holiday in Whitby!), we caught the carnivorous bug!

We sell our plants at shows and fairs โ€“ for specific shows and dates see โ€˜Shows & Fairsโ€™ -, and online. We are happy for people to visit the nursery, but strictly by appointment only, please.

Other than plants we also sell photoโ€™s, T-shirts, compost, pots and other sundries, which are available in our online shop.

Peter Walker (Wack) has been obsessed with plants for a long time, and has worked in horticulture most of his working life. He has had training in the UK and the Netherlands, and even designed gardens for banks and parks (under the pseudonym Peter from London โ€“ well, thatโ€™s in England!) in Azerbaijan. He loves unusual (not just carnivorous) plants, and amongst others has a decent collection of Aeoniums. The nursery started as a back garden outfit, with limited space to grow. In 2015 we moved to Scampston, to be able to expand the nursery.

Peterย runs the business together with his wife Helleentje, who does love the plants, but is mainly used for her excellent van stacking ability and other organisational talents โ€“ probably also her willingness to work for free.

The main part of the team is Billy the rescue lurcher (follow him on Instagram) who meets and greets.

Wackโ€™s Wicked Plants has expanded from displaying and selling at local venues only. We take part in several RHS shows, as well as our original local ones (Harrogate Flower Show, Great Yorkshire Show). So far we have received great accolades and are looking forward to the future which looks to hold new challenges and adventures!!

Over the years we have responded to our customersโ€™ requests to sell online. Buying carnivorous plants could not be easierโ€ฆ.

We Provideโ€ฆ..

  • Care and advice with every plant sold that is easy to follow.
  • Carefully packaged plants to ensureย they arrive in the same exceptional condition they left us in.
  • We create the ideal compost for all your carnivorous plants and sell it in a variety of pack sizes.
